Introduced in 1973, the second-generation Nissan Skyline GT-R was intended to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the legendary "Hakosuka" Skyline that thoroughly dominated Japanese touring car racing. Powered by Nissan's potent 2-liter S20 inline six, the new GT-R (nicknamed "Kenmeri" after a memorable ad campaign) was a strong performer. However,  the global oil crisis of the 1970s and Nissan's attendant withdrawal from racing doomed the Kenmeri GT-R from the start, with only 197 examples built before production was halted. Today, the rare second-gen Skyline GT-R ranks among the most desirable of all Japanese "nostalgic" cars.
